Rome – a city of culture and beauty!
I’ve just come back to Rome after studying Italian last year for 2 months in this beautiful city. It was a great experience, not only because I met a lot of nice people from all around the world on the course, but because I was in Rome!
Last year I participated in a photo competition organised by the school and I won the first prize which gave me the chance to come back for another two weeks. So here I am once again in Rome.
After arriving in Rome, I immediately felt at home. Even though Rome is the capital of Italy, it doesn’t feel like a big city. There are so many things to see here, the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Vatican and so many other things, but there is more to Rome. If you just walk around the city you will find places that are beautiful and without many tourists. For example I did a “passeggiata” (a walk) with some people of the language school to the quartiere Coppedè. This is a lovely part of the city with some nice architecture.
Yes, we all know, Venice is absolutely amazing, and during my one week language course there I almost couldn’t believe it was for real. There are some clichés about Venice that I will try to avoid, mainly because they are true – it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and therefore there are also an abundant number of tourists, some places can also be quite pricey. But at the end of your experience in Venice that won’t be what you keep in mind, especially if you try to move away from the crowds.
“Er Core De Roma”
One of my favourite things in Milan is the nightlife! Usually it starts at 20.00 with the typical Happy Hour. In every bar and pub of the city the lunch counter is full of every kind of delecacy, from appetizers, to pasta, and Italian cheese. The Iguana Cafe is the happy hour par excellence! After the aperitif, all the people meet in the various restaurants of the Navigli and the centre, to taste every kind of food, not only Italian, but Brazilian, Mexican, Spanish, Chinese, Taiwanese… To keep on with the evening, everybody moves on to the most trendy discos of the area, where music and fun are guaranteed!
Have you got some time off? Want to spend it learning a new language and having an awesome cultural experience at the same time? If your answer is yes then I highly recommend that you look into booking yourself into an Italian language school in Taormina, Sicily! I attended the school for 2 weeks and if I had to name my only one regret it would be that I didn’t make my stay in Taormina a longer one.

I’ve just finished my second week here at the school in Sorrento and I think I must be dreaming. Let me tell you why.
Having already visited Florence, Venice and Verona in the north, Sorrento and Sicily in the south, I wanted to go somewhere with fewer tourists. I wanted to taste the real Italian lifestyle. I wanted a warm, comfortable climate in a city near the sea. ”Salerno” is perfect for the weather being in the south of Italy it is warm all year round. I stayed in Salerno in May and I was able to go sunbathing!
My preconception of Pisa was of a city that has built up a tourist trade around an ornate tower with dodgy foundations. Not great, I know, but having previously loved my short visits to Florence, Siena and Rome on my week’s tour of the country I was anxious to get to Pisa and see why you would bother choosing to go visit it when there are so many other amazing sights to see in Italy?*
There’s no doubt about it. Rome is one of the most unique and exhilarating cities I have ever been to! I loved it! Now, I’m no history buff, but even I was awed by the sites I saw there. Of course, you think of Rome and immediately imagine the Coliseum and
