Greek – or, for that matter, any language with a different ethnography – is notoriously difficult for speakers whose native or most-commonly-used language utilises the Latin alphabet (for those who aren’t familiar: that’s your ABCs, as opposed to your АБВs).
Though quite au fait with other European languages, and having been bilingual since the age of 5, our travel-blogger Jo Franco definitely learned this the hard way!

This language is spoken from the western borders of Kalinigrad to the far eastern borders of Vladivostok and has over 166 million native speakers! Moreover, if you add the 100 million non-native speakers, this beautiful language – Russian – is spoken by over 250 million people worldwide!

Dubbed both the City of Music and the City of Dreams, Vienna has held the top spot for ‘most liveable city’ on Mercer’s Quality of Living survey for 9 years running!
This August, travel-blogger Jo Franco from Shut Up and Go sets her sights on Athens, the cradle of western civilisation and the birthplace of democracy – and home to our Greek-language school!
Our partners over at the Greek school will be helping her to tell her epsilons from her omicrons and giving her a foundation in a language with a history spanning more than 34 centuries.
We’re often asked whether we arrange courses for young Irish students who are preparing for the Leaving Certificate. As we are based in the UK, it’s a common misconception that we only arrange courses for British students. This definitely isn’t the case! All our courses are suitable for students at any stage in their education. Participants will take a level test prior to starting the course which makes sure they are placed in a group with students of a similar ability.

If you plan to visit Viareggio this summer, and fancy a change from the beach, I would definitely recommend that you make time to visit the nearby town of Pietrasanta. The Italian province of Lucca seems to have it all: Rolling Tuscan hills, beautiful beaches on an incredible coast line, where you’ll also find the carnival town of Viareggio (home to our beautiful Italian language school) and last but not least, Pietrasanta, with its pristine medieval buildings, and fascinating art history.
There are a lot of major cities in the UK but none is greater than London. The UK’s capital, London is more than just a big metropolis. It is truly unique and depending who you talk to, one of the most important cities in the world. London can be described as a country of its own, not only because of its massive size but because of the many different people and cultures that call this place their home. You can also call it home if you study English at one of our fantastic central London language schools!
If you want to:
– Learn a foreign language, then do so in a country that speaks it.
– Surround yourself with the language as much as possible, then stay with a local host family.
– Fully appreciate a country’s traditions and culture, then take part in a local or national festival!
Many festivals and events celebrate local culture, cuisine, music or art. Europe’s festival season is normally during Spring and Summer, but festivals, local parties, events and celebrations take place all year long throughout the world.
