Portsmouth – the UK island’s island city
Portsmouth is an island port city situated on Portsea Island in the county of Hampshire, England. Confused? Luckily we have included a picture. The city’s rich history has been influenced by its association with the sea and its proximity to London and mainland Europe. The Romans were the first to appreciate the sheltered natural harbour at Portsmouth – they used it as a strategic base when fighting pirates in the English Channel. As you might already know, it later became the home of the Royal Navy.

A city that’s never quite the same each time you visit, Berlin will not fail to put you under its spell! Often referred to as the city of freedom, Germany’s capital has both a historically concise past and a multi-faceted present of unlimited possibilities.
This Northern city became world-famous thanks to its major part in the Industrial Revolution. The 18th century saw Liverpool’s population explode as people flocked to the city to work, and the 19th century cemented its place as one of the world’s most important ports. In the 20th century Liverpool set the scene to become the capital of pop, while the 21st century saw it finally honoured as a European Capital of Culture.
