Language schools open over Christmas and New Year
As we discussed in our earlier post on specific Christmas Language Courses, Christmas and New Year is a really special time to visit a country and immerse yourself in a language course, as this is a time where culture and tradition come to the fore. You will also find people are even more eager to tell you about how they will be celebrating, giving you even more opportunities to flex your linguistic muscles!
Some of our schools offer special Christmas courses, as we mentioned. However, many more also remain open over this period. In general, most will close for a couple of public holidays during this time; typically 26th December and 2nd January, although this does vary depending on the location, so please do check this with us before you book.
Each country celebrates this time of year in its own unique and special way. Some of our top tips on where to spend the festive period include:
New York – Spending Christmas in New York is an experience not to be missed. The Americans truly love this holiday, despite following so closely after Thanksgiving and no-one does it better than New Yorkers themselves. From the iconic Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Centre to Santaland at the famous Macy’s, New York is packed with Christmas spirit, which makes the city the perfect choice for your English course at Christmas! Our school in New York will only close for public holidays.
Buenos Aires – Christmas in Buenos Aires is all about the food, from extravagant restaurant meals on Nochebuena (Christmas Eve) to pan dulce (the Argentinian version of panettone). Our Spanish language schools in Cordoba, Mendoza, Bariloche and Ushuaia will also remain open over this period, as will many of our other Latin American schools, please contact us for further information. Our schools in Argentina will close for public holidays.
Vienna – With Christmas markets to rival those in any German city, Vienna is truly magical at Christmas time. This is ball season in Vienna and the city takes on an elegant atmosphere, almost like that of another era. After your German lessons head over to one of the city’s famous cafes for a piece of sachertorte and a hot chocolate crowned with whipped cream! Our school in Vienna will close for public holidays.
Paris – The City of Light truly lives up to its name at Christmas time with some of the most stunning illuminations! Taking a French course in Paris over Christmas and New Year will be a truly unforgettable experience and Paris school is conveniently located for you to enjoy a truly Parisian Christmas! This Paris school only closes for public holidays.
Tenerife – Escape to warmer climes this Christmas with a Spanish course in Tenerife. This charming island combines Spanish traditions with a mild climate all year-round, making for an excellent alternative! As with the schools above, our Spanish school in Tenerife will be closed for public holidays.
These are just a few of the options available, please contact us if you are interested in taking a course over Christmas in any other location and we will be pleased to advise you!
As well as all the locations mentioned above, there are, of course, some locations where Christmas is not celebrated (or where it is celebrated in January) and which are, therefore, not affected by public holidays during this time (although many of these will also close on 2nd January). These locations include China, Japan, Egypt, Morocco and Ukraine (which will celebrate Christmas on 6th January 2017).

I’m interested in a French course in the Alpes. Morning ski and afternoon French lessons. If not possible just a French course wherever.
Thank you for your comment Diego. Please feel free to call us on +44 1509 211612 so we can help you further. We would be very happy to arrange a French course for you in Chamonix or Morzine. Both these locations would be ideal for French lessons in the morning and skiing in the afternoon. Alternatively you would be welcome to join any of the French language schools that we offer.
